Joe Young is a Canadian luthier who crafts his guitars from his home, a genuine cottage industry based on Vancouver Island. Joe’s came to me with a painting a friend had painted of him in his shop he wanted this to be a part of his identity.
The challenge, was to incorporate a custom word mark into the painting that could be used throughout a identity system including web, print media and more.
The Solution, using an old style font, I started to add and change the shapes, building in elements to give the font more life. Adding in the natural elements of leaves and vines helped to define the space between the painting and the typography. This pulled it all together and helped to bring in those identifying elements to start building Joe Young’s Brand.
Web: The Strategy: To create a site that reflects the craftsmanship of Joe Young’s custom guitars. We created a, fully-custom, responsive, eCommerce build. Visual highlights include the use of photography, custom product pages and eCommerce. The identity reflects Joe’s personality and the unique style he infuses into each guitar he builds.
